James Shelton Autry

AUTRY

Jim Autry was born to Floyd and Ruby Autry on January 5th, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas. Jim died peacefully in his sleep on August 25, 2023 in Fort Worth, Texas at the age of 75. Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Diane Autry. His children; Leslie Manchego (Brian) and Mitchell Autry (Julia). His grandchildren; Brandon Weyel (Morgan), Nathan Weyel (Lee Ellen), Kristen Young (Michael) Jake Autry, Benjamin Autry, and Madilynn Autry. His great-grandchildren; Khloe Hickman and Maxine Weyel. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Autry, and great-grandson Ryan Luke Hickman. Jim worked at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio in the Engine & Vehicle Research Division for 24 years, retiring in 2006 and moving to Rockport, Texas where he loved to fish. He always wanted to go into the ministry so he felt he should go to the seminary now since he wasn’t getting any younger. Jim was blessed to serve at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Sinton, Texas while he was studying at Concordia Seminary, and was ordained in 2012. He made many friends working alongside his fellow Christians and continued his legacy of being quite the storyteller! He retired for a 2nd time in 2014 when he and Diane moved to Cleburne, Texas to be closer to their grandkids.

A special thank you to the medical teams at the Texas Health Hospitals who worked alongside Dr. Erik Furman with Jim’s recovery from his recent fall, Town Hall Estates, Keene, Texas for their help with his rehabilitation, and to Community Health Hospice for their support.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ascension Lutheran Church Building Fund.

A graveside service will be held at Coker Cemetery in San Antonio, November 25th at 11 o’clock.
