BARBARA ANN BILLINGSLEY NICHOLS
September 26, 1934 - July 13, 2018
Barbara Ann Billingsley Nichols was born September 26, 1934 in
Nix Hospital in San Antonio, TX according to her brother Bruce Billingsley; she
passed from this life in San Antonio, TX on July 13, 2018 at the age of 83.
She was the third child of Floyd and Margaret Billingsley and the third child born
in the month of September. Her siblings are Joan Billingsley Loper (deceased) of
Austin, TX, Bruce Billingsley of Wimberley, TX, Edward Billingsley of Pembroke, NH
and Craig Billingsley of San Antonio, TX.
According to older brother Bruce, the Billingsleys chose to name their older
children after celebrities: sister Joan after actress Joan Crawford; Barbara
after actress Barbara Stanwyck and brother Bruce after columnist Bruce Barton. From
their late teen photos, sisters Joan and Barbara were beautiful young women.
Barbara graduated from Jefferson High School in San Antonio, TX and attended San
Antonio College. She attended Ben Shaw Modeling School and was a model at Frost Bros.
in San Antonio, TX. She also worked at Ralph E. Fair and at Rhodes Department Store
in Wonderland Mall, one of the largest malls in San Antonio, TX in the early 1960s.
Barbara married Gary Nichols on June 20, 1956 at Sunset Ridge Church of Christ. Gary
Nichols (deceased) was a Chaplain in the United States Air Force. Barbara was a
dedicated Christian. In later life she volunteered as a Blue Bird, along with
sister Joan and brother-in-law Joe Loper, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, TX.
Barbara and Gary had three children: Garry D. Nichols, Keith A. Nichols and Melissa
Ann Guzman, all of the San Antonio, TX area.
According to her daughter Melissa, Barbara was an excellent cook, loving mother
and grandmother, gorgeous first soprano. She is survived by her three children;
son-in-law Raul Guzman; grandchildren Shara Lynn Graves and David A. Reynolds both
of San Antonio, TX; grandson in law, Duane Graves; great granddaughter Phoebe
Graves.
Barbara will be laid to rest in the Coker Cemetery in San Antonio, TX; a memorial
service is planned at graveside on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at 12 noon preceded by
a family worship service together at Coker United Methodist Church.
