CHESSHER
Dorthy "Dot" Ann Chessher (née Isom)
passed away February 22, 2025, just ten days shy of her 90th
birthday. Born and raised in San Antonio, Dot graduated from
Jefferson High School in 1953, attended San Antonio College,
and later pursued studies at UTSA. A proud legacy of her
family remains in San Antonio with Isom Rd named after her
grandfather.
As a child, Dot spent many joyful summers in Port Aransas
with her parents, who were avid fishermen. Her love for the
beach and the sun never faded and family vacations to "Port A" continued as a cherished tradition for generations.
While attending SAC, Dot met the love of her life, James
"Jim" Chessher. Their relationship was a true love story.
They were married for over 60 years until Jim's passing in
2016. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and lasting memories.
Dot had a passion for education, spending 25 years as a
schoolteacher where she mentored and inspired countless young students. After retirement, she brought her charisma and
creativity to several endeavors including working as an Avon
representative and earning a place in Avon's President's
Club, running a women's clothing boutique from her home
and later working at fashion retailer SA Rose.
Dot was deeply involved in her community where she played active roles in school and neighborhood organizations, often in leadership positions. She helped organize class luncheons for the Jefferson Class of '53 and chaired both the 25th and 50th class reunions. Her dedication to community beautification and spirit was recognized with multiple awards. She proudly served four terms as president of the Churchill Estates Women's Club and helped coordinate beloved traditions like the annual Easter Egg Hunt and 4th of July Parade.
A long-time member of the Texas State Association of Pioneers, Dot served as Lady Chairman in 2007. Riding in the 2007 Fiesta parade along with Jim was a joyful highlight of her life.
Dot had a green thumb, was an avid gardener and master tomato grower! She took great pride in her yard, earning several "Yard of the Month" honors. Dot and Jim also shared a love for western, German, and square dancing, making many dear friends and hosting unforgettable gatherings in their backyard.
The Chesshers were longtime members of Coker United Methodist Church for over 50 years where they enjoyed fellowship and Sunday lunches with friends.
Dot is survived by her beloved children: son Todd Chessher (partner Carlos), daughter Stacy Jean Fowler (husband Joe), and her treasured granddaughter Presley Ann Richardson (husband Matt).
A graveside service will be held at Coker Cemetery on April 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dot's memory may be made to San Antonio Pets Alive.
