Arthur L. Harper Jr.

HARPER

Arthur L. Harper Jr. passed away May 2, 2003. Born November 17, 1919, he attended Texas Military Institute where he was Lt. Col. leading the Rifle Team to two consecutive William Randolph Hearst Trophies. He graduated University of Texas in 1941 and married Patsy Lee of San Antonio. In 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. Commissioned also in 1942, he was a captain in one of the first radar units, seeing aerial action in the South Pacific on B-24s. He received the Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars. After his return from WWII, he made his working career in San Antonio radio and television advertising. He retired in 1985. A lifelong member of the Masonic Anchor Lodge, he was also a member of the Alzafar Shrine Drill Team, which won several state championships. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patsy Lee Harper; children, Suzanne Harper Bayer, Dianne Harper Barnes and A. Lee Harper; three grandsons and two great-grandsons. Private Services were held at Coker Family Cemetery May 6, 2003.
