BOERNE - Taylor Jones spent most of his life in the
service station business, beginning at age of 13 at his father's Gulf
station in San Antonio.
He managed a service station in San Antonio with his father and brother
until 1981. For a while Jones had his own station, and he also worked for a
cousin who had the Gulf Terminal, where gasoline is stored.
Jones, 50, died Friday in Seguin of a massive heart attack while fencing land
he and his brother had just leased. Cattle were due to arrive Monday, so he
was pushing himself to be ready when they arrived.
"He wanted to run cattle, as he loved this business," said his wife, Patsy
Cabeldue Jones. "Mainly he wanted the lease for his sons. My husband was a
very compassionate, loving, caring man. He provided for the four children I
had from a previous marriage as if they were his own."
"Deep down he wanted to do what was right and fair. He didn't believe in
church, but he believed in God. He would tell us when something wasn't
quite right and would say God was watching. He had faith in God."
Jones was born in San Antonio and graduated from Schertz-Cibolo High School.
He and his wife were married in Lytle in 1978. They owned a gas station and
Jones Ice and Grocery Store in Lytle.
In February of 1982 they moved to Boerne and in March they opened Jones
cleaning Service, a home and office cleaning business.
"My husband was a hunter fisherman who loved to travel." said his wife. "We
were planning to drive to Colorado and Las Vegas next ,omth, as he loved
this area the most. The morning he died he reminded of the trip."
Other survivors are two daughters, Sandra Staples of Santa Monica, Calif.,
and Lindel Shoemake of Santa Monica, Calif., and Lindel Shoemake of San
Antonio; four sons, James T. Jones Jr. and Jon Shoemake, both if San Antonio,
