Mitchell G. “Tom” Tomasini, Jr. passed away peacefully on
January 27, 2018, at the age of 90. Tom was born on July 30, 1927, in San Antonio.
He grew up on his family’s ranch on Bitters Rd. and graduated from Thomas Jefferson
High School, then joined the Merchant Marines. Upon his return, he met his wife
Mary Ellen Van Riper, whom he married in 1950. For a time, Tom worked at Southwestern
Bell Telephone Company, however he soon found his lifelong niche working in
sales, finally retiring at the age of 86. He and his wife Mary Ellen relocated to
Boerne in 1990.
Tom was a loving and devoted son, husband, brother, father, grandfather,
great-grandfather and friend. He was an avid supporter of Boerne baseball, basketball
and 4-H, and loved hunting in Colorado. He truly enjoyed meeting with family and
friends to share conversations and meals at Whataburger, Mague’s Café and the Rainbow
Senior Center. He will be remembered for his kindness to both people and pets, and
for his knack for jokes and storytelling. He is preceded in death by his wife of 42
years, Mary Ellen; his parents; and his brother Jake. He is survived by his two
brothers, Robert and Tex; two daughters, Claire Segovia and husband Timo and Mary
Bennett and husband Steve; four grandchildren, Heather Alston and husband Wes, Cassie
Peeples and husband Mason, Sean Segovia and wife Haley, Sterling Bennett and wife
Katie; and four great-grandchildren, Poppy Alston, Beau Segovia, and Amelia and
Graham Peeples, who all loved him dearly. We will miss him, but have peace knowing
he is with loved ones in Heaven.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 14, at 1 p.m. at Coker Methodist
Cemetery in San Antonio.
