Coker Cemetery History #16

by Bob Battaglia

There are quite a few old pictures that have not been published. I thought it would be nice to show some of Joseph Coker’s children. Hopefully this will bring forth some more pictures that are lying around in somebody’s attic.

Neil Brown Coker married Judith Hamlin Wilson May 19, 1872.
They are both buried at Coker Cemetery.
Their three children (Joseph, James and Mary) are in this picture.

William Leonard Tarrant Cokermarried Caroline Smith Aug. 20, 1868.
She was an older sister of Clinton Lafayette and Jefferson Davis Smith.
These brothers were kidnapped by the Indians on Feb. 26, 1871
and finally released about 10 years later.
It is described in a book “The Boy Captives”.
There is a bronze marker on Jefferson Davis Smith's gravesite.
Their children, Frances and Clinton Coker, are in this picture.
